Ashington - 00 Layout Last updated 09/02/2012

Ashington is a model of a typical small Southern Railway/Region stabling shed as found in many places along the south coast. Adjacent to it is the station halt of Ashington.

The model was originally built by Dave Kent of Worthing MRC in about 2001 and has been shown at many exhibitions. It was also featured in Hornby Magazine and its Yearbook for 2007-8.

This layout minus rolling stock was recently purchased by AHRS member Phil Standen. Phil has been busy re-populating it with replacement EMUs, DEMUs and other typical Southern stock. As well as the recent Bachmann and Hornby releases, kits have come from Phoenix, Ayjay, DC Kits plus others. Construction was done both by Phil and by Britannia Pacific Model’s Peter Hazleton, another AHRS member. Their results can be seen in the pictures below.

Phil has added a second fiddle yard to the layout so that the Halt is no longer a terminus, and other typical SR trains can now be seen running through on the main line.

Phil intends to continue showing this layout at exhibitions. His first outing was to Broadstairs in 2011.

Ashington has been invited to forthcoming exhibitions at Tenterden (Homewood School) in March and Robertsbridge in May 2012.
